Janie Ampel, nee Isador, 66, of Highland Park, died April 5 in Evanston Hospital.

Mrs. Ampel was born March 5, 1937 in Chicago and also lived in Westwood, Calif. She was a 1955 graduate of Highland Park High School and a 1959 graduate of the University of Missouri. An avid tennis player, Mrs. Ampel was on the A-team in the North Shore Country Club Tennis League and played in the Palm Desert (Calif.) Senior League for years. Having studied dance, she was a frequent performer in the North Shore Community Theater's productions. She was a member of North Shore Congregation Israel.
