Article: State seeks to set goals for special education

The Illinois State Board of Education's special education compliance division conducted its review of the Maine Township Special Education Program last week. The public forum for parents, on Dec. 11, was, at times, both heated and emotional.

In particular, some attending the meeting expressed anger that members of the state board's compliance division would not be answering questions. Rather, board members said, they were there to collect information from parents on the development and implementation of individual education programs for students.

Such programs are put together for special education students each year. They are used to set out educational goals.
