Article: Cell phones allowed in D219 schools

Niles Township High School students for the first time will be allowed to bring cell phones to school, but they can only be used before or after classes.

The new policy, which will go into effect within the next few weeks once parents are notified, was unanimously approved last week by the School Board after a back-and-forth discussion during the last two meetings.

Some Trustees initially said they favored a more lenient policy than the one approved and wondered whether kids should be allowed to use cell phones inside and outside the school buildings during free periods.
