The Lakes Region Historical Society is wasting no time in its preparations to preserve St. Ignatius of Antioch Episcopal Church as a museum and cultural center for the community.
The Lasco Florist property to the north of the church was torn down on March 29 by Leo J. Fox Trucking and Excavating, Inc. of Antioch to make room for the new parking lot.
"They leveled it and put down black dirt," said Bob Lindblad, president of the Historical Society.
The Historical Society purchased the church, known to be the oldest building in Antioch, from the Episcopalians last summer and will take full control of the site on May 1. The parish is currently building a new church at the corner ...
