The South Barrington Village Board's decision to appoint, rather than elect, the village clerk will tested by referendum April 3.
Residents who are in favor of electing the village clerk successfully petitioned to give voters the opportunity to reverse the board's Jan. 11 decision.
Village President Michael Neben said the
SOUTH BARRINGTON board chose to make the position of village clerk an elected one because it has been difficult in the past to find qualified candidates for the minimal-salary position. The village clerk earns $300 per month.
