More and more residents are becoming asthmatic to the point that some experts are calling it an epidemic.
Pinning down the reasons for the increased occurance of asthma is elusive, in part, because it is so closely tied to allergic reactions which vary from person to person.
Asthma is a chronic lung disease without a known cause or cure. The bronchial tubes of asthma patients are hyper-reactive, said Youngran Chung, a pediatric pulmonologist at Loyola University Medical Center's asthma clinic in Maywood.
