Article: D219 building permit causes trustee sparks

Although the Niles Township High School Board last week unanimously approved filing a building permit with the state for its mammoth construction project, the vote came after two trustees ripped into each other in a public exchange.

Filing a building permit for work to be performed at Niles West and Niles North High Schools over the next several years is a routine requirement by the state, Superintendent Griff Powell said. Any new addition to a public building must go through such a process in order to proceed with construction, he said.

"It's a routine kind of matter," Powell said this week.
