After nearly 10 years as an anchor store at the Lincolnwood Town Center mall, JC Penney will close its doors at the height of the holiday shopping season.
When the mall first opened 10 years ago, Madigan's and Carson Pirie Scott were the two anchor stores. But Madigan's shortly went out of business, and JC Penney became an anchor in November 1991.
What perplexes some observers is the timing of Penney's closing. Instead of waiting until after the holiday shopping season, the retailer will close its doors in Lincolnwood Nov. 9. A going-out-of-business sale already is under way.
