Article: Season's first power outage is short-lived

The first major power outage of the summer hit last Friday, cutting off electricity for just short of an hour on the north side of Arlington Heights and in parts of Palatine and Buffalo Grove.

The power failure occurred around 11 a.m. Police fielded hundreds of calls from activated alarms. They were also called out to direct traffic where signals had failed on Rand, Dundee and Arlington Heights roads.

"There were a few accidents caused by it, but nothing serious," said Arlington Heights Police Sgt. William Martin. "It was quite extensive."

Some 30,000 to 40,000 customers were affected by last week's outage, said Commonwealth Edison Public Affairs Director Ron Crawford. ...
