Article: Chicago Avenue site eyed for interim Levy Center

Levy Center members will bid farewell to their 33-year-old building this fall and move to an interim site on Chicago Avenue if the City Council approves a committee recommendation.

In two steps, the Human Services Committee on Monday recommended using the former Szechwan Palace Restaurant, 1629 Chicago Ave., for an interim site, and advised city staffers to continue to pursue the former Recycling Center in James Park as a permanent site for the Levy Senior Citizens Center.

The restaurant location awaits remodeling to fit the program needs of the Levy Center members, but Assistant City Manager Judy Aiello envisions a timetable that would allow the move by Nov. 1.
