Article: Highwood considers Main Street program

Highwood is looking to Main Street for inspiration to boost its downtown.

A meeting was held at the Hotel Moraine Monday night to get citizens interested in joining the state's Main Street program. Another meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m., April 19, also at the Hotel Moraine.

The meeting was called by the Highwood Chamber of Commerce, which has been working with the Illinois Lieutenant Governor's office, which administers the program, to obtain membership for Highwood.

The real impetus behind the effort, however, is Bill Christensen, head of the city's Plan Commission, who saw a Main Street presentation six months ago and was impressed.
