Article: D219 to delay tax hike vote

Niles Township High School Trustees made it clear Monday night that they are not in favor of seeking voter approval for a tax hike in the upcoming April 13 election.

The board, which will have one final chance to make that decision at its Jan. 25 meeting, followed the recommendation of Niles Township High School Superintendent Griff Powell.

Powell told the board Monday that his recommendation is for District 219 to wait to seek voter approval for a tax hike until at least the March 17, 2000 election.

Powell, who has been superintendent in District 219 for about four months, was asked in October to make recommendations about the district's financial future.
