No new sidewalk will be built on Church Road, Winnetka trustees have decided.
By a rare 4-3 vote, with Village President Louise Holland casting an equally rare tie breaker, the Village Council decided against adding a walk for part of the east side of Church.
Though the council minority argued that a partial sidewalk would improve pedestrian safety in the area, the council majority felt that building a sidewalk wouldn't help solve the problem, particularly since it might not be a problem in the first place.
In addition to Holland, Trustees John Lien, Michael Duhl and David Hilton voted against the sidewalk. Trustees Penny Lanphier, Don Derning and William Meuer voted for it.
