Now Winnetka's Christ Church can really make a joyful sound.
Early this year, the church added three new bells to the tower of its Church on the Hill, 784 Sheridan Road.
That gives the church a total of 14 bells, making it one of the largest chime sets on the North Shore and in fact one of the few to exist in the area.
"It's something you don't see very often any more," Richard Clemmitt, the church's organist and choirmaster.
"Most churches have only two bells or one or none, just a loudspeaker in the bell tower."
With the additions, the bell set now can be used to play melodies, which the church couldn't do previously.
