The Chicago SouthShore & South Bend Railroad is acquiring 100 new gondola cars with a total price tag of more than $8 million. Equipped with insulated, one-piece covers, the cars can handle shipments of coiled steel.

The cars began arriving in mid-May from Trinity Industries Inc. in Dallas.

They have a 112-ton capacity, are 42-feet long and feature a continuous trough with moveable crossbars to accommodate steel coils ...
