Article: Algonquin church breaks ground on new building

Members of the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church broke ground Sunday morning on the congregation's third church building at the corner of Washington and Jefferson streets in Algonquin.

The new building will replace the church that stood at the site from 1916 until it was torn down in August.

In 1997, the congregation voted to replace its current church with a new, larger building, which is needed because of the congregation's growth.

Pastor Rollin Kuznik said the groundbreaking ceremony was a wonderful event. He said the parishioners filled the morning with good sprits and a positive attitude about the future of St. John's.

"It was spectacular," Kuznik said. "All we saw was joy."
