Suburban police and prosecutors have been advised to keep all but the most basic information about arrests from the public following changes to the Illinois Supreme Court's Code of Professional Conduct.
The new rules require prosecutors to ask police departments to release only the information that appears on a court record, said Robert Benjamin, spokesman for Cook County State's Attorney Richard A. Devine. Other information, such as a police officer's descriptions of what took place at a crime scene, or a basic account of how a crime took place, is not supposed to be released.
