A cross standing alone in the middle of a cornfield marks the spot where a new church will soon be built in Fremont Township.
St. Mary-Fremont Center Parish, a 136-year Catholic parish in unincorporated Lake County, will soon be breaking ground on a new church off of Erhart Road and near Fremont Center Road. This will the first new church the parish has built in more than a century.
The last time parishioners celebrated a church groundbreaking was in 1889 when German Catholic farmers built the existing church on Erhart Road.
