Paying them a bonus for sticking with their jobs is a move aimed at stemming the high turnover rate of child-care teachers that is backed by children's advocates, business groups and law enforcement around the state.
A measure to pay the supplements, which could range from $200 to $3,000 every six months based on length of service and professional development, was expected to be taken up by the Illinois Senate this week, following unanimous passage by the House last month.
