Article: Motorists see gas prices dip

Illinois motorists may have found more freedom to drive over the Independence Day weekend as the state enacted a suspension of the sales tax for gasoline, which caused prices at the pump to drop slightly.

Gas prices in the Oak Park area dropped anywhere from 6 cents to nearly a quarter per gallon after the state legislature's suspension of the gasoline sales tax took effect July 1.

Prices as low as $1.87 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline could be found at area service stations after the 5 percent tax suspension was implemented. On the previous Friday, prices were as high as $2.06 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline.
