Par, birdies, eagles, bogies. To the uninitiated, the golf lingo may seem like terms associated with the bond market or bird-watching.

Vernon Hills police and golf organizations would like to get more young people interested in the sport requiring good manners, a sense of competition - and understanding of the sport's vocabulary.

"Yes. We certainly would like to see more kids hooked on golf," said Kim Christenson, crime prevention officer for the Vernon Hills Police Department.
