Par, birdies, eagles, bogies. To the uninitiated, the golf lingo may seem like terms associated with the bond market or bird-watching.
Vernon Hills police and golf organizations would like to get more young people interested in the sport requiring good manners, a sense of competition - and understanding of the sport's vocabulary.
"Yes. We certainly would like to see more kids hooked on golf," said Kim Christenson, crime prevention officer for the Vernon Hills Police Department.
"Most youngsters have unlimited opportunities to play sports such as baseball, basketball and football, but only a select few get the opportunity to learn about golf. Who knows," Christenson suggests. "Maybe we'll ...
