A sign with no flash is better than no sign at all.

That was the opinion of Barrington High School Parent Teacher Organization members, who last week withdrew the petition they filed with the village seeking to put up a $60,000, 17x12-foot, flashing electronic sign in front of the school.

After two hours of debate about the sign July 21, PTO spokesman David Nelson decided to withdraw the petition and go the hassle-free route: Obtain a permit from the village to put up a sign that does not flash.
