Only three days after his right leg was amputated below the knee at an accident scene, 23-year-old Guadalupe Gomez is already talking about running in next year's Chicago Marathon.
"He's praying every night that the doctors will come to him and say they are closing up his wounds and tell him he can start rehab in a week or two weeks. He's ready to give his 200 percent," said Gomez's fiancee Jessica Pesina, 19 of Elk Grove Village.
Gomez, also of Elk Grove Village, was pinned between two cars on Interstate 94 just outside of Gurnee on Saturday night after a vehicle slammed into him. He had stopped with Pesina to assist motorists involved in a minor traffic accident.
