Article: Park District budget shows decrease

The Gurnee Park District budget approved by its board of directors April 15 decreases by 3.5 percent during the next fiscal year, compared to the current fiscal-year budget of $4.1 million, the park district announced this week.

The decrease is due to a 10 percent increase in the district's taxable value, the state's tax cap and a decline of more than $300,000 in park district bond fund expenses.

Recreation costs make up the biggest portion of the new budget at $1.5 million, followed by site and construction costs of $1.4 million.
