Article: Aldermen consider banning cigarette vending machines

A year after requiring locking devices on cigarette vending machines, the Rolling Meadows City Council is now considering whether to ban them altogether or restrict their placement.

The Tobacco Information and Protection Program Committee of Rolling Meadows Tomorrow has called for banning cigarette machines entirely within the city to keep minors from buying tobacco.

An alternative would be for the city to adopt and enforce federal regulations, scheduled to take place in August, that restrict vending machines to locations where minors are not allowed.
