J.P. Williamson is a leading candidate this spring to become the first Big Ten Freshman Player of the Year in Northwestern University baseball history. The 1996 graduate of Oak Park-River Forest High School should also be considered for the conference's comeback player of the year.
Williamson's rookie college season has definitely been a story of rags to riches.
The first month of the season through the nonconference portion of the Northwestern schedule was a struggle at the plate for Williamson. In fact, his batting average bottomed out at .143 (7-for-42) on March 25.
