When Buffalo Grove was a budding suburb 30 years ago, most homes were sold to young married couples looking for an affordable "starter" home in a community where they wanted to raise their future family.

Today, real-estate agents say their clients represent a diverse mix of ages and incomes, and the housing stock has evolved to accommodate residents' wishes.

"In the '70s people moved to Buffalo Grove because it was affordable," said Realtor Joanne Ryan of ReMax Experts. "Strathmore (subdivision) was it - the biggest and the newest subdivision."
