Without the Lake County Board, the coroner wouldn't have a morgue. The sheriff wouldn't have a squad car and the county clerk wouldn't even have a paper clip.
They wouldn't have a paycheck, either.
The county board is charged with providing funds for elected and appointed officials to run their offices, including setting the salaries for those officials.
County board members also set salaries for county board members, but increases do not take effect until after the county board election. This year, county board members shaved 2 percent from pay increases that would have gone into effect for those elected to the county board in November.
