Article: Panels turn thumbs down on car wash

The Elk Grove Plan Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals voted unanimously to deny a request by Mobil Oil Corp. to add a car wash at its existing location at 1600 Nerge Road.

At a March 20 joint public hearing, the two panels recommended against overturning a restriction that was placed on the property in 1978. The restriction prohibits any use other than a gas station unless there is Village Board approval. The limitation was devised as a way to protect the quality of life of nearby residents, village officials said.
