The sport of lawn mower racing is literally cutting across North America.
Just ask Kevin Penne, a 32-year-old Lake Villa resident and two-time national champion who serves as Lake County's goodwill ambassador to the sport, which began in England 30 years ago.
"It's a blast. We have a lot of fun with it and the sport is growing like never before," Penne said. "I first watched lawn mower racing at the Lake County Fairgrounds and I knew I was on the wrong side of the fence that day. This sport was made for me.
