Article: Clayton bases campaign on her experience, record

Though her Democratic challenger wants voters to consider whether state Rep. Verna Clayton, R-Buffalo Grove, will fulfill her term if re-elected, the incumbent said she has postponed her retirement and will stick around for at least another two years.

"I've been in office long enough that when I tell people something, they know I mean it," said Clayton, who has served as state representative for the 51st House District since election in 1992. "I'm not one to take something on (and) then back off. I will complete this term."

Prior to the primary election, Clayton had announced her retirement from politics but then entered the race to defeat challenger Mike Salvi.
