Article: Vernon Hills retains its title to Half Day

The fight over Half Day is wholly over, with Vernon Hills retaining its title to the territory.

Last week, the Illinois Supreme Court refused to hear an appeal by the village of Lincolnshire seeking to overturn Vernon Hills' annexation of the property. With the decision, unincorporated Half Day becomes extinct.

Vernon Hills wrestled with Lincolnshire for three years for the roughly 45-acre parcel, ultimately working a half-nelson over Half Day. The village forcibly annexed the property in Dec. 1993, and Lincolnshire followed suit one week later. Lincolnshire then filed suit, challenging Vernon Hills' annexation.
