Article: Voters to send message on O'Hare runways

Seldom has a suburban referendum - such as the one that will ask voters March 19 if they want more runways at O'Hare International Airport - received so much negative attention.

Drawn up by the sponsoring Suburban O'Hare Commission, an anti-noise, anti-pollution organization of suburban communities, the advisory referendum asks whether the Illinois General Assembly should allow Chicago to build new runways at O'Hare, bringing in hundreds of thousands of new flights over local homes, and increasing noise, air pollution and safety hazards while decreasing property values.
