Savory Beet and Goat Cheese Tart took the top honor in Aunt Nellie's "'Beet' the Clock" Recipe Contest. Mary Louise Lever of Rome, Ga. loves the contrasting flavors of piquant pickled beets and tangy goat cheese and it inspired her to create this sensational tart.
Lever said her hobby is creating new recipes.
"I tried watercolor painting but I was not so wonderful at it, now I paint with food," said.
Lever's self-proclaimed "eclectic cooking with a Southern twist" cooking style sums up this dish. Layers of caramelized onions, beets and herbed goat cheese are perfectly contrasted against the golden crust producing a beautiful and flavorful combination.
