I would like to address an issue that concerns all of my brethren in the accounting industry. That is: How we are viewed by the public, and our own self-image.
When studying for the CPA exam close to 30 years ago, Ethics Ruling 17.141 was still in effect; it questioned the right of accountants to have their firm's name on the backs of bowling shirts (e.g. "KPMG Kingpins").
I remember saying to myself, "Do I really want to be associated with a profession that drafted an ethical pronouncement about bowling shirts? For that matter, do I want to be associated with a profession that bowls? I don't think architects bowl."
