Area businessman Joseph Pellar died at his home Wednesday. Pellar was the founder of the Gary-based Crown Corr, the Schererville health club Omni 41 and the Triple J Bingo and Casino outside of Las Vegas.
Born in 1929 in Hammond, Pellar graduated from Hammond High and went to Michigan State, where he received a swimming scholarship. He married his wife of 57 years, Elaine, on June 6, 1949.
Pellar served in the Korean War and returned to region to work as an ironworker before founding Crown Corr, Inc. in 1960. Crown Corr is one of the top metal contracting businesses in the United States.
