Article: Experts say more research needed to help understand causes of sleep disorders

Counting sheep apparently isn't as easy as it used to be. According to a recent study released by the Institute of Medicine, an arm of the National Academy of Sciences, between 50 million and 70 million Americans struggle with chronic sleep disorders, which cost the nation hundreds of billions of dollars every year in medical expenses, lost productivity, accidents and other costs, Fox Valley doctors say they are well aware of the problem.

"It's very prevalent in our society," said Dr. Pradip Sethi of Elgin's Northwest Sleep Center. "This is something that we should be talking about seriously."
