Article: Set limits for video games

Q. My daughter, nearly 8, has asked for a Nintendo DS for Christmas because she played with a game at her friend's house and has been talking about it ever since. This particular game is about dogs - a favorite subject of hers - and is highly rated. But I'm afraid she'll get addicted to it and lose interest in reading and playing with her friends and in all the other things she now likes to do.

We try hard to limit the time our children spend watching TV and playing on the computer, but a personal game system may make it harder for us to set boundaries, and it will leave her little sister out in the cold.

Should I try to put off this game for another year? Or forever? If we do give in, ...
