"World Trade Center" submerges us in the suffering endured by the first responders to 9/11, and in doing so it elicits our sympathy, our sorrow and even our tears. Yet the movie offers very little in return.
Which raises the question: Is there value in suffering by proxy?
That is essentially what "World Trade Center" asks us to do. The movie makes no statements about the event; it tells us nothing we haven't already learned. It just wants us to vicariously experience the physical pain felt by two Port Authority police officers who were ...
