Mild weather made the holiday season merry for many downtown Glen Ellyn merchants, who said their businesses did well in December.
"Business was good and perhaps even better than the previous holiday season," said Florence Schmid, owner of Schmid's in downtown Glen Ellyn.
Items that sold well at her store this holiday season included party goods, stuffed animals, candles and artificial wreaths.
Also popular was the homemade fudge that has been made in the store since 1971. Although chocolate and chocolate walnut fudge remain old favorites, candy cane, pumpkin and nut, chewy praline and coconut cream are popular flavors during the holiday season, Schmid said.
