Article: Lewis University's Diversity Week events to honor MLK

For those who wanted to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Jan. 15 but didn't get the chance, Lewis University has some suggestions. King will be remembered during this year's Diversity Week, starting Jan. 21. All activities are free and open to the public, said Laura Kiran, public relations spokeswoman for the university. In 1986, President Ronald Reagan declared the third Monday in January a federal holiday commemorating King's birthday. This year the third Monday was his actual birthday, Jan. 15.

King was born in 1929, the son of the Rev. and Mrs. Martin Luther King Sr. He became perhaps the best-known civil right leader and earned the title "the Great Equalizer."
