Article: Historical Society obtains rare anvil

The Barrington Area Historical Society was recently able to buy a rare anvil -- the last of its kind -- for use in its blacksmith workshop.

The purchase was made thanks to a $1,000 donation from Barrington Township. Historical Society Volunteer President Mike Harkins recognized Township Supervisor Gene Dawson for the township's contribution on March 14.

"This isn't just a gift from the township," Dawson said. "It's a gift from the community because it was given by using money collected from the community."

Dawson said it was a way to the township to use taxpayer money to give back to the community.
