Article: OP Library raises rent for commercial entities

Room rental rates are doubling for commercial entities at the Oak Park Public Library, but there's no change in rates for not-for-profits.

The library has charged the same rate for commercial bodies and not-for-profits in the past, Assistant Executive Director Jim Madigan said.

"Our trustees are committed to, whenever possible, look at how we're doing things in order to increase opportunities to earn income so that we can lessen our reliance on property taxes," Madigan said.

At the same time, the library does not want to become too expensive for community clubs, Madigan said. So it has established separate rates and doubled the rental charge to commercial entities.
