There are a few things we need to clear up about piano bars. One: Not everyone who hangs out at these joints are over 55 and swig manhattans. Two: Chicago is not the only place to find a good pianist. Three: Piano bars can be as raucous as a neighborhood bar - just with dressier attire.

"We don't play classical at our bar. We'll play pop tunes, stuff that people recognize - country, rock, that sort of stuff," said Dick Portillo, owner and founder of Portillo's restaurants, which owns Julian's Piano Bar in Aurora. "And you have to remember one thing, that most of the people that I have in Julian's are from downtown (Chicago), and all the other popular piano places in Chicago."
