Article: Golf course revival making birdies

Four years ago, I wrote letters to The Glencoe News expressing frustration about the significant deterioration of the Glencoe golf course. Drainage problems were severe, golf course maintenance was little more than a grass-cutting exercise, and on-site management seemed out to lunch most of the time.

While the golf course was becoming a water hazard, Village Board leadership seemed more interested in placing a hotel complex on the underwater fairways. While the board was telling the Glencoe community how much our taxes were going to be reduced, the Glencoe golfing base was leaving in droves.

Quietly and quickly the golf course sustained almost $1 million in losses in four years. Triple bogey!
