Article: Siegel: Menards impact good|Garden center sees business rise this spring

CREST HILL - Paul Siegel didn't quite know what impact a big-box Menards store across the street would have on his garden center. But business has been up this spring - the first with the new Menards store that opened in February at Weber and Caton Farm roads. Siegel has concluded that the impact is positive, even though Menards also sells flowers, plants and trees.

"There was a fear among some people that a big garden center opens next to you and it will put you out of business," Siegel said. "That hasn't happened. I didn't think it would. They have their niche, and we have our niche."
