Article: Business still growing for garden center

More than three decades after it first opened, the Gurnee Garden Center continues to grow and bloom, attracting plant lovers from all over the area in search of quality, selection and know-how.

Owners Jerry and Shirley Laux of Wadsworth said they feel fortunate to love what they do for a living, and never imagined they'd be celebrating their 35th season when they opened the garden center as young adults.

"As Gurnee grew, we grew with them," said Jerry, who started out working at a wholesale greenhouse but dreamed of owning his own business.
