'Who would ever want to go out for a hamburger? You can have hamburgers at home."
It was with these words that my father (supposedly) gave up an opportunity to be part of the McDonald's franchise with family 50 years ago. He had an aunt and uncle, Betty and Sandy Agate, who opened the second McDonald's. That was in May 1955 in Waukegan.
