Article: Then and Now: Historical Society tracks evolution of Island Lake

What once was considered a resort community nearly 60 years ago has evolved into a bedroom community during the past few decades, say members of the Historical Society of Island Lake.

Historical Society President Connie Mascillino said before Island Lake was incorporated in 1950, many people came to the area to take advantage of the lake during the 1930s and 1940s.

"Early on, the majority of the residents were summer residents," Mascillino said.
