Africn American dance has shaped our culture -- perhaps more than we realize.
A new exhibit at the Joliet Area Historical Museum looks at that very topic in a traveling exhibit provided by the National Afro- American Museum located in Wilberforce, Ohio.
The exhibit is titled "When the Spirit Moves: African American Dance in History," and it runs from Jan. 31 to March 14. It also honors Joliet's dance legend and pioneer, Katherine Dunham.
"We brought this one in because of Katherine Dunham," said Leslie Brolin, marketing manager with the Museum. "She was a choreographer and dancer from Joliet. There is some information about her in this exhibit, that's one of the reasons this exhibit was ...
